The Rise And (Brief) Fall Of Paul Henry

Just over a week ago Paul Henry was accepting the People’s Choice Award for Best Presenter at the 2010 Qantas NZ Film and Television Awards.

Today he announced his resignation from TVNZ. What an astounding fall from grace.

For the record, I think Paul is a superb broadcaster.

However, the comments he has made recently regarding New Zealand’s Governor General, and those of New Delhi’s chief minister, Sheila Dikshit, are not acceptable. Especially for a broadcaster who is employed by the New Zealand taxpayer.

However, I suspect Paul Henry will emerge from this relatively unscathed – I wouldn’t be surprised if TV3 CEO Jason Paris has not already made contact with Paul for a role in TV3. Although TV3′s Sunrise was a flop rating’s wise, it could well be resurrected with Henry at the helm.

Interesting times ahead.
