New Zealand Search Engine Optimisation Competition

New Zealand Search Engine Optimisation Competition

Aug 21

Now this is pretty exciting (if you’re into bounce rates, CTR and PageRank updates), and hats off to competition organiser Adam Hutchinson for putting it all together.

What Adam has done is organise what is probably New Zealand’s first SEO competition, and it’s free to enter. The aim of the competition is to rank #1 in Google for a pre-selected keyword phrase on the deadline of 28th of November.

“Often site owners don’t know that investing in search engine optimisation of their site can result in a dramatic increase in traffic or make a huge difference to ensuring that you are attracting the right sorts of visitors,” Hutchinson says.

Sure can beat paying big bucks for Google AdWords, if you can’t actually get a Top 4 organic result in the first page of Google (which is what SEO is all about).

As an aside, online Ad spending is close to six billion dollars a year in the US, and New Zealand companies spent over $NZ53 million in the first quarter of this year alone.

Now obviously a significant proportion of this spend will be on online job advertisements, as any newspaper publisher will begrudgingly admit, but there’s still a heck of a lot spent on the likes of Google AdWords and all sorts of sponsored links and banners.

The major prize includes a $3000 media package with PR gurus Swaytech, and a $1200 mobile marketing pack thanks to text messaging company Texsys.
